Elon Musk says he will give every kid in America one share of SpaceX next year.
He posted the promise early Monday: 'Next year, I will give one of my SpaceX shares to every kid in America.'
Musk added that this will be 'the first of many' such gifts.
There are about 72 million kids under 18 in the US. At $146 a share, the gift is worth about $11 billion.
The shares would likely go into Trump Accounts, tax-free savings accounts for American children.
President Trump thanked Musk on social media and called him a 'legendary friend.'
About 70 million Trump Accounts now exist. Kids born from 2025 to 2028 get a $1,000 government deposit.
The pledge came one day after AI company Anthropic put 5% of its shares into a public benefit fund.
Michael and Susan Dell gave $6.25 billion to the same program earlier this year.
SpaceX president Gwynne Shotwell pledged one share for over 2 million kids back in July.
Families cannot sell gifted stock for five years, or until the end of the year the child turns 17.
No shares have moved. The Treasury must approve the gift first. Read the full story below.
