A developer got PlayStation 5 games running on an Xbox Series X through emulation.
PS5X is an Xbox port of the open-source KytyPS5 emulator. It works like a translator.
In a September 8 video, the developer booted the PS5 version of Quake II on Xbox.
GEX Trilogy, Hellboy, Marvel Cosmic Invasion, and Quake II all boot with Xbox controller input.
TweakTown reckoned Quake II runs at roughly 25 to 45 frames per second in the footage.
A newer Xbox port booted Astro's Playroom on the Series X. It crawls at 10 frames per second.
Both consoles use the same AMD chips and speak the same basic computer language.
The Xbox cannot use Vulkan. Every frame gets translated twice before it reaches the screen.
It runs only in Xbox Developer Mode. Microsoft caps memory at 5GB there, not 13.5GB.
The developer calls it a research project. There is no public download for anyone else.
Fake sites named PCS5X spread malware. Never download an emulator from a random link.
