Richmond, Virginia is getting a big new gym. Onelife Fitness plans a $24 million club at Midtown64. The club will cover 65,000 square feet across two floors. It is set to open in 2028.

This is Onelife's first club in Virginia's capital. It will not be the last. The company says more Richmond clubs are planned.

The Midtown64 site is the first step in that push.

The club will anchor a large new mixed-use project. It will sit next to a Trader Joe's. It will offer a pool, boxing, Pilates, and a full recovery suite.

Here is what we know.

What happened

Onelife Fitness announced the plan on October 14, 2026. The new club is called Onelife Fitness Midtown64. It will sit at 6620 West Broad Street, near Interstate 64 in Richmond.

The club will be big. It will cover 65,000 square feet. It will span two floors.

The $24 million investment will pay for the build and the equipment.

Midtown64 is a $500 million project. Greenberg Gibbons is the developer. The site covers 46 acres.

It will hold up to 130,000 square feet of shops, restaurants, and entertainment space. It will also hold up to 300,000 square feet of office space. The plan includes nearly 1,000 apartments and 194 townhomes for sale.

A hotel is also planned.

Onelife will anchor the retail side of the project. Trader Joe's will be a fellow anchor tenant. The two names will draw foot traffic to the new district.

The club's feature list is long. It will have large strength training areas. It will have turf training areas.

It will have modern cardio machines. It will have a 3,000-square-foot outdoor workout area.

It will have a Reformer Pilates studio. It will have a Strike Boxing studio. It will have group fitness, mind and body, and cycle studios.

It will have an indoor saltwater pool. It will have a hot tub and a cold plunge. It will have spa-style locker rooms with saunas.

It will also have a recovery studio. That studio will offer red light therapy. It will offer HydroMassage.

It will offer Normatec compression and percussion therapy. A kids club will take children from three months to 11 years old.

Ori Gorfine is the CEO of Onelife Fitness. He said Richmond has been a long-time goal for the company. "Virginia is where Onelife Fitness started," Gorfine said.

"We've been trying to open in Richmond for some time. "

He said the club will offer top programs at fair prices. He called it a "third space" between work and home. It is a place where people build community and reach their goals.

Why it matters

Richmond is a gap in Onelife's map. The company is strong in Northern Virginia. It is strong in Hampton Roads.

But it has never had a club in the state capital. This move fills that gap.

The location links two regions. Richmond sits between Northern Virginia and the Tidewater area. A Richmond club ties those markets together.

It gives members a stop on the road between them.

Midtown64 matters too. It is one of Richmond's largest new projects. A big fitness club gives the site a daily draw.

Shoppers come and go. Gym members come almost every day. That steady traffic helps the shops and restaurants nearby.

The club also brings jobs. Each Onelife club supports about 100 local jobs, according to the company. That covers trainers, front-desk staff, kids club workers, and cleaners.

The build itself will also bring work to the area.

The features show where gyms are heading. The new club is not just weights and treadmills. It mixes training with recovery.

It mixes fitness with social space. The cold plunge, saunas, and red light rooms are part of that shift. Gyms now sell rest and recovery as much as workouts.

The kids club matters for parents. It lets parents work out while staff watch their children. The age range starts at three months.

It runs to 11 years. That is a wide range. It makes the club usable for families with young kids.

The timing fits a wider push. Onelife has more than 76 clubs open or in development across the East Coast. It has over 5,000 team members.

It was founded in 2011. It now runs clubs in Washington, D. C. , Maryland, Virginia, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, West Virginia, and Alabama.

What happens next

The club opens in 2028. That is about two years away. The Midtown64 site is still under construction. More details on membership and prices have not yet been announced.

Onelife says more Richmond clubs are coming. It has not shared where they will be. It has not shared when they will open.

The Midtown64 club is the first of several.

The company has other projects in motion. It plans a flagship club at Tysons Galleria in McLean, Virginia. That site will open in late 2027. It will take over a former Saks Fifth Avenue space.

Onelife also bought two Phaze 3 Fitness clubs in Alabama in September 2026. The clubs are in Huntsville and Madison. That deal took its Alabama count to five clubs. It opened a club in Ashburn, Virginia, in July 2026. It has opened clubs in Raleigh-Durham, Atlanta, and Birmingham in the past year.

More openings are planned in Towson, Annapolis, and Bel Air South in Maryland. Another is planned for the Mosaic District in Northern Virginia.

Richmond residents will wait for the build. The club is still a plan on paper. But the money is set.

The site is set. And the company has a clear record of opening what it announces. For Richmond, the wait for a first Onelife club now has an end date: 2028.
